Contributing

Is the amount I contribute visible?

Your contribution amount will only be visible to the Pot owners. Pot owners may also choose to keep the total amount raised in the Pot hidden from public, they can turn this function on or off in Pot settings.

Is there a card processing fee?

Yes. When contributing to a Pot in the United Kingdom you'll be asked to include a 'top-up' with your contribution. The top-up covers the card processing fee, ensuring your entire contribution goes directly into the Pot. The card processing fee is calculated at 1.9% +20p of the total transaction. If you choose not to include a top-up, or if the top-up amount isn't sufficient for the entire processing fee, your contribution will be reduced accordingly to cover the difference.

Why am I asked to add a top-up to my contribution?

We ask contributors to add an optional top-up to their contribution for two reasons. Firstly, we use it to cover the cost of card processing fees. Secondly, it enables the running of our platform and supports our mission of celebrating the people and stories behind every Pot. By adding a top-up of at least the 1.9% + £0.20 card processing fee, your entire contribution amount goes to the intended recipient without any deductions.

Can I edit my message?

All messages are editable as long as the Pot is still open. To amend a message, navigate to the ‘Wallet’ in your account and click the ‘Contributions’ tab. Here you will find a history of all your previous messages. Click the edit icon to the right of the message you want to change, and ‘Update’ once you are happy with the new text.

Do I need to create an account to contribute to a Pot?

Anyone may contribute to a Collection Pot without creating an account. However, in creating an account, any previous contributions will be logged to your account and grant you the ability to edit any recent messages. It also saves you from having to set up an account when you receive a Pot in the future!

Can contributors buy specific items from my Wishlist?

Yes! They simply pick the Wishlist item they’d like to contribute to and complete payment as normal. Once an item is fully funded, it will show as "funded," so everyone can see what’s already been covered.

Can I contribute to a Pot without choosing a Wishlist item?

Yes! You can click Add to Pot, or select the Cash Donation option from the Wishlist items, and donate the desired amount.

Will contributors see what has already been purchased

Yes, purchased Wishlist items are clearly marked, so contributors can pick something else that’s still available, but they won't see who purchased the item, or how much someone contributed to an item.

What can be customised on my Collection Pot?

Choose when and where the Pot is going to be sent, swap out our images for some of your own and then choose your Pot description! Lastly, get your gratitude out there early and write a message that will be sent out to each contributor.

What the difference between a Standard Pot (Flexible) and a Set Amount Pot (Fixed)?

When using a Standard Pot (or Flexible Pot), any contribution is welcome, as long as it is over £1. Our Set Amount Pots (or Fixed Pot) are most commonly used for events like stag parties and hen do’s where each guest has a fixed amount to pay.

What does it cost to create a Pot?

It is totally free to create and redeem a Collection Pot.

Will the recipient know I have set up a Pot for them?

If you choose to send the Pot to someone else and enter their details, we will not contact them until the Pot has closed at the time set.

What is a Collection Pot?

A Collection Pot can be used for any occasion whether you want to pool money for a friend's birthday gift, gather resources for a departing colleague, or raise funds for a charitable cause. Invite contributors via email, social media, and your track progress to the target!

Will my Pot appear in search engines?

No. Your Pot will have its own unique URL which you can only be shared by sending the Pot link or QR code with others.

Can I close a Pot early?

Yes. To close a Pot early, contact our customer success team on live chat. We're available Monday to Friday, 09.00 to 17.00 (GMT/BST). Alternatively, drop us an email at hello@collectionpot.com.

Can I extend a Pot's closing date?

Yes. You may extend the Pot’s closing date in Pot settings.

Does it matter what country I set the Pot up in?

When creating a Pot, you must be a resident of the United Kingdom or an EEA Country. Sadly, we can't create Pots for residents of The Channel Islands or the Isle of Man. Please note that Pots are only redeemable in the currency you selected when setting them up.

Can I amend who the Pot goes to?

Certainly. You're allowed to change the recipient of the Pot at any time. This includes switching a Pot from being a 'Send to Someone Else' Pot to a 'Send to Me' Pot.

What is the Wishlist feature?

The Wishlist lets you pick specific things you’d love to receive—like a romantic dinner on your honeymoon, a baby keepsake, or a birthday treat—and show them as itemised goals within your Pot. It helps make contributing feel more personal and clear for your friends and family.

How does the Wishlist work?

When you create your Pot, the Wishlist feature is automatically turned on for honeymoon Pots—which you can disable in the Pot settings if you wish. You’ll then be able to list items with short descriptions and icons, each with a set target amount. Contributors can choose which item they’d like to help towards and contribute part or all of the amount.

Can I use the Wishlist with a Message-Only Pot?

No, Wishlists are available only on Pots where everyone must chip in or chipping in is optional. Message-Only Pots don't have this option.

Which occasions support Wishlists?

For now, Wishlists are available for Honeymoon Pots exclusively.

Spending

Where can I spend a Collection Pot?

Once the Pot is closed, the Pot’s balance can be withdrawn directly to the recipient’s bank or spent with one of our 60+ gift cards providers or on gifts we sell.

Can I split the balance?

Yes. A Pot’s balance can be redeemed between multiple bank accounts, gift cards or other gifts we sell – it is entirely up to you!

How long do I have to spend my Pot?

A Collection Pot will remain redeemable for 6 months from the date of closure. We will attempt to remind the Pot owner or recipient to ensure that Pot does not go unspent!

How does Collection Pot store my personal data?

At Collection Pot we take the safety of all your personal data very seriously! Your personal details are all encrypted and secured under lock and key to ensure they are not seen or used for anything other than the redemption of your Pots.

Can I withdraw a Pot to my bank account?

Pots in the United Kingdom can be transferred to personal bank accounts. For most banks, funds usually reach your account in seconds, otherwise funds will typically arrive within three working days.

How many messages can you fit inside a printed card?

This all depends on the length of each message, but you should be able to fit about ten messages into an A5 card and 25 into an A4 card. Messages are added on a first-service basis, and if we can’t fit all the messages, don’t worry; they are still viewable online for your recipient when scanning the Pot QR Code.   

How does my recipient access the Pot to spend the Collection?

Each card contains a unique QR Code; they just need to scan this with a smartphone, create an account with us and then spend their Pot as they choose!  

Will GIFs be printed?

We don't print GIFs in order to fit as many messages into a printed card as possible. And anyway, they’re only worth it when they’re moving, right?! Of course, all GIFs can be viewed online via the QR Code, in all their moving glory. 

Can I have an extra envelope?

Of course, we can include an extra envelope at no additional cost. Just select this option when ordering.

Can I send a card outside the UK?

Not yet! Cards can only be sent to UK addresses at the moment.

When will my card be sent?

Cards are printed and sent via Royal Mail 1st Class (no tracking) on weekdays, excluding Bank Holidays - order by 10 a.m. for same-day dispatch. Orders placed after 10 a.m. will be printed and sent the next working day. 

How do I access my purchased gift cards?

To access a gift card you have purchased, log in and navigate to your 'Wallet' in the dashboard. Your 'Wallet' will contain both your purchased gift cards and your contribution history.

How are Wishlist contributions handled?

All Wishlist gifts are contributions to your Pot, just shown against your chosen items. You’ll receive the money in your usual Pot balance, ready to spend however you wish.

How to send an e-card?

Once your card is filled with lovely messages and ready to send, head to your Pot and click <strong>Send Pot</strong>. Change the closing date if you need it earlier, pop in the recipient’s details, and your e-card will be on its way.

What is an e-card?

An e-card is a digital version of a greeting card – but much easier to share across your group. Everyone can add their message online in one place, wherever they are. Perfect for remote teams, family WhatsApp chats and more.

How to send an e-card on WhatsApp

Go to your Pot and click Invite others. Copy the link, share straight to social or email, or download a QR code – whatever works best for your group from WhatsApp to Teams.

How to make an online card

Head to collectionpot.com and click Create Pot. Choose your occasion, pick from 60+ card covers, add your own message and share one easy link with friends and colleagues.
